Whether we see ourselves as leaders or not, we all have those really difficult conversations to navigate.  Second guessing ourselves, worrying about how to deliver our message without offending.  Sadly life does not come with a rule book. 

"Dare to Lead" is the closest to a manual we'll get.  Filled with the usual Brene honesty and compassion, this book provides practical experience for approaching our lives with bravery, humour and compassion.   Definitely a great read for the perfectionists, people pleasers and strivers amongst us.

Combined with mindfulness the day is ideal for those who enjoy interesting discussions and want to take some time out as well.   The retreat runs for the full day and includes all refreshments.  


We'll gather in the turret suite around 9.15 and have refreshments and introduce ourselves.  There'll be place cards with the key themes from the book and we'll each select the one that resonates most.  Over coffee and pastries we'll talk through the themes in a relaxed and explorative way.  We'll work in small groups of 5 or 6 so everyone has a chance to contribute. 

After a short break we'll move into the relaxation area where there'll be an overview of a mindfulness theme followed by a guided practice.

Lunch - 45 minutes - A light lunch of soup, salad, sandwiches and fries


In the afternoon we'll return to the relaxation area for another mindfulness session where we'll explore the concepts and benefits of compassion and follow another guided practice.

We'll follow this up with a second book session and end the retreat with a mindful reflection and parting ceremony.

Optional Walk

As we are right on the sea front, there's an option to take a walk along Leasowe Bay. 

About the Day

Brene Brown has a PHd and decades of research experience in emotional intelligence, life and people.  Her writing is witty, honest,  authentic and truly relatable.  On this day we'll explore some of the difficult themes we all face in a respectful and supportive way.  The discussions will be supported with restorative mindfulness practices.  For those of you who enjoy good conversation, this day will be like a spa for the mind.   You'll come away with an understanding of how mindfulness can support our resilience and well being even through the toughest of times, learning techniques that you can explore at home. 

In mindfulness we have a saying that "in just turning up for yourself, you are doing something in your own greatest interest".

What's Included

We'll have a dedicated area to turn into our space for the day, so we can really make ourselves comfortable. Feel free to bring blankets, mats or cushions with you, although we will provide cushions and blankets.  Welcome refreshments, a light lunch and afternoon refreshments are also included.  Overnight accommodation is available but should be booked separately if required.

The experience is limited to 15 people.  When you reserve your spot, you will receive your personal copy of Brene Browns best selling book to read in advance of the day.  Printed quotes from the book will be available on the day to support the discussions.

Your Instructor

You will be guided by Julie who is a qualified teacher with the British Mindfulness Association, she also has a Masters in mindfulness from Aberdeen University.
