Studying mindfulness at Kagyu Samye Ling

Updated: Oct 4, 2019

I've always seen studying as a means to an end. A qualification to be gained to improve the CV and the job prospects. It's always been about the result and not the experience. Mindfulness has changed that and I guess given the nature of the topic it should. I no longer leave the text books on the side until assignment time or seek out passages that will boost my reference list. I read the books because the topic of mindfulness is as fascinating as it is liberating. When I read about an experience, thought, emotion or view and it resonates with my own personal experience, I realise that at least one other person has had that experience. It's refreshing and reassuring. One of the great bonuses of studying with Aberdeen university is that 3 or 4 times per year we study together at Samye Ling. The location is beautiful and studying with the group enriches the experience.
